Yao Hong & Michelle {Wedding} · dazza

Behind the dynamics of every couple is a unique and individual story. A story none can contrive and replicate – stories happen as they happen. And the story of Yao Hong and Michelle is a sweet one containing a camp-out, a torchlight and glow-in-the-dark stars.

When the three of us first met up, I listened intently to Yao Hong and Michelle’s story of how they met, leading up to Yao Hong’s sweet proposal. He had planned a camping trip under the stars, with a backup plan of glow-in-the-dark stars pinned to the canopy of their tent. Having been a cloudy evening, Y.H switched to his plan ‘B’ only to find that the plastic stars had spent their glow. So he scrambled to re-glow the stars with a torchlight in his hand, as Michelle on the outside – still not knowing his plan – wondered curiously what-the-heck he was up to.

Shortly after, we met again for their ROM solemnisation at One Rochester. During the solemnisation, I observed how close the couple were with their group of friends. And this would be something that carried through to the couples’ full wedding day almost two years later…

Their Greece inspired wedding day was held at the Conrad Hotel. Where Spellbound Weddings did an amazing job running with the theme – from a beautifully decorated reception table – where guests could write postcards to the couple (in place of a typically guestbook), to a floral decorated gazebo which stood centrepiece on stage. Michelle could not contain her gush of love for Spellbound Weddings.

The bride’s pretty white gown and reception dress were also Greece inspired houlter tops designed by Amanda Lee Weddings.

The couple and their entourage surprised guests with a ‘dance-in’ during the lunch reception, I don’t think anyone would have realised just 10mins before the couple’s friends had been rehearsing in the Bridal suite.

While the Yao Hong and Michelle’s wedding was just one day several months ago, I think back to almost 3 years ago when I first listened to their engagement story, then photographed their ROM. And today looking at their wedding day pictures I think about what an amazing journey they’ve travelled together, me included ;)

Barry & Shann {Wedding} · dazza

Barry, Shanna-mae and I met almost a year before their actual wedding day. Right after they left the studio, I thought to myself “Wow, I hope I get to shoot their wedding”. We had so much to chat about as we found common musical interests in dub step and trance like Myon & Shane 54 and Above & Beyond.

And it was with great joy, when almost 12 months later we were together again at the couples’ wedding.

The couple’s solemnisation mass was held at the Church of St Vincent de Paul, where close friends surprised the couple with a song after their vow exchange. The couple were also showered with thousands of little cupid-shaped confetti, which were painstaking die-cut by an aunt.

We took time before dinner to photograph some portraits around the Grand Copthorne Waterfront. Dinner was an eventful evening with touching speeches and an animated Barry as the champagne cork flew across the ballroom and narrowly whacked a close friend on the head. Well into the night our meeting from 12 months before came full circle – as Barry and Shann’s friends who were DJs filled the ballroom with some trance.

Sometime after their wedding I read on the couples’ Facebook accounts, a quote which I have grown to love -
“You keep my grounded, yet because of you, I am always flying”.
