A Swede Romance: Wedding Day Photography of Jessica and Patrik

“KC, you sure know how to make me cry!” said Jessica, as she hugged me after watching the wedding highlights. This was the second slideshow that I had given her, the first one being the ROM ceremony (held a few months before the customary wedding) which I also had the honour of documenting.

These are some of the best things I’ve heard in my line of work. Brides and grooms who were genuinely touched by the photos I took of them and people dear to them. It also reminds me that taking wedding photos is not (just) about hoping to nab the “award-winning” shot which may or may not mean a lot to the couple (a lot to the photographer who will have bragging rights), but to capture the definitive moments that best sum up the relationships between the bride and groom and their families and friends.

Jessica is a bride I truly admire: for her intelligence, her bubbly personality, and her conviction in love. She has an infectious laughter and a caring disposition. She makes people around her laugh, and happy. She is smart because she speaks fluent Swedish (who else here knows Swedish beside Ikea and kottbulle) after she gave up everything in Singapore and followed Patrik (yes, no typo)  and her heart to Sweden.

It was also coincidental that her sister, Jane, was my senior in junior college. It was heartening to see the sisters so close to each other. The elder sister would organize everything for the younger sis so that the bride didn’t have to worry a single thing. The younger sister would protect the elder one so that she wouldn’t overwork. Jessica also made sure the elder sister caught the bouquet during the toss!

Sorry I kept rambling on the bride without a word on the groom. Well, he’s a Swede, what can I say? Dashing, ice-cool, quiet but warm in their usual Scandinavian ways! Haha! Congratulioner!

The equatorial sun

Singapore has witnessed several brilliant and amazing sunsets lately. I think it’s only after I became a photographer that I started to notice and appreciate sunsets and the light. Our little island may not always have the best of light, vis-a-vis other countries as near as Malaysia or as far as Provence. However, if only we look closer and pay more attention…..we’ll get lucky somehow.

Jerry and Yenny’s Wedding Day

We all know that things don’t go according to plan on wedding days. But when things go wrong, as they usually would (and at the worst possible time!), I admire couples that can keep their cool and not get flustered. There were more than enough “incidents” on Jerry and Yenny’s wedding day but nothing could stop them from having fun and celebrating one of the most important days of their lives! I’m only thankful that I had the opportunity to photograph their simple but beautiful wedding day!   //yu hsin
