Nuts and Raisins

Kevin and Cynthia’s wedding was the 2nd of the three weddings over the long weekend. I had a really great time with them in Perth earlier this year when I shot their bridals there. During the trip, we chatted a lot. As I got to know Kevin and Cynthia a little bit better, I took an instant liking to them. They must be one of the most unassuming couples around. Kevin always has his boyish smile for someone or something. I still remember mentioning in passing that peanuts and raisins was one of my favourite snacks (especially during the late night edits heh).

Back to the wedding day. What an event it was! We had such a great day out and the only disappointment was that I wasn’t able to capture the whole entourage outdoors because all the roads around where we wanted to shoot were closed because of the Stanchart Marathon. Even then, I think I made some of the best images this day. It was a day filled with joy, tears and laughter – in truly Kevin-and-Cynthia-trademark fashion.

What made this wedding truly memorable for me – interestingly – was a bottle of nuts and raisins that Kevin and Cynthia left for me at my seat at dinner. It’s not an extravagant gift by any standard. But I thought it was one of the best presents that I’ve ever received from any couple. Sure, big fat red packets would be nice but knowing that someone actually paid attention to the small details in your life really means something. I was talking to Dino during the banquet about what makes a couple special to us vendors – and I think this is it – when couples actually take interest in what you do, cares about your well-being knowing that it’s an extremely tough day, and offers you their friendship with open arms. So thank you guys for taking so good care of me, and for being such wonderful people!

Kevin mentioned to me near the end of the day that he’ll really miss the wedding and the planning et all. I think I will too. Enjoy your Italian honeymoon you guys!

Kevin and Cynthia in Perth

I spent a couple of days last week in Perth amidst the crazy September wedding season. Initially, I was a little worried that it would take 4 precious days away from all the editing that was waiting for me to do. Boy, was I wrong – yes it did the 4 precious days away – but I had such a great time shooting Kevin and Cynthia that those worries were behind me from the time we landed. Kevin and Cynthia are quite the opposites – Kevin is so full of energy (he drove 3.5 hours to and another 3.5 hours back from Margaret River all by himself – imagine!) and Cynthia is the strong and silent one who does everything without complaints. Despite the cold and dreary weather, they just got on with the shoot like a bunch of eager beavers :) . Thanks guys for a great time in Perth guys, and I’m looking forward to your wedding day!

The fruits of our labour ;)
