Adrian and Huishan are such a different type of couple. In Huishan’s words, Adrian is like the bride – he takes care of the little details and goes out of his way to make the wedding day memorable. Memorable it was, at least for me. I had such an easy time with the photography, with so many close family and friends celebrating their wedding with much gusto and spontaneity.  Good on you guys…happy marriage!

These are some of the best things I’ve heard in my line of work. Brides and grooms who were genuinely touched by the photos I took of them and people dear to them. It also reminds me that taking wedding photos is not (just) about hoping to nab the “award-winning” shot which may or may not mean a lot to the couple (a lot to the photographer who will have bragging rights), but to capture the definitive moments that best sum up the relationships between the bride and groom and their families and friends.

Jessica is a bride I truly admire: for her intelligence, her bubbly personality, and her conviction in love. She has an infectious laughter and a caring disposition. She makes people around her laugh, and happy. She is smart because she speaks fluent Swedish (who else here knows Swedish beside Ikea and kottbulle) after she gave up everything in Singapore and followed Patrik (yes, no typo)  and her heart to Sweden.

It was also coincidental that her sister, Jane, was my senior in junior college. It was heartening to see the sisters so close to each other. The elder sister would organize everything for the younger sis so that the bride didn’t have to worry a single thing. The younger sister would protect the elder one so that she wouldn’t overwork. Jessica also made sure the elder sister caught the bouquet during the toss!

Sorry I kept rambling on the bride without a word on the groom. Well, he’s a Swede, what can I say? Dashing, ice-cool, quiet but warm in their usual Scandinavian ways! Haha! Congratulioner!

Hanging on the wall was a family portrait in which a familiar face popped out. It turned out that Junjie’s elder brother is an old friend of mine, from JC days when we were members of the college football team. Unfortunately, he wasn’t present throughout the day because he just became a newly-minted father and because of a Chinese tradition, he had to avoid the newly-weds.

Another thing that stood out was Charlotte’s father. He single-handedly created the bride’s bouquet, wrist corsages, table floral decor and in short, all the flowers that were supposed to be at the wedding venue were done by the bride’s father! He was a very quiet man, and I hardly heard him speak. All day long, he was busy doing up the flowers, and had to be pulled away at the last minute to get changed even after the Justice of the Peace had arrived. His wrinkled face betrayed not much emotions. The only time he allowed us to “enter” his mind was the seconds after he had veiled her only child. Those were the precious few drops of tears which I think the bride would treasure for the rest of her life.          ~kc
