Yippee!

I just got home from another gruelling but absolutely satisfying wedding day shoot for Sean and Sheree. I shall blog about that when I get a chance to look through the images in the next couple of days.

There was a pleasant surprise in the mail today. I managed to pick up 2 awards at the WPJA’s Q4 competition. Amazingly, both were from Kevin and Cynthia’s (thanks guys!) wedding shot in December last year! I still maintain that it was one of my best shoots ever. Although some of the images that I had submitted and kind of had high hopes for (like one of the images from Isaac and Melissa’s wedding) didn’t get placed, I’m still thoroughly estatic – especially since I’ve *finally* managed to get a 2nd placing in the Toasting category(heh!).

That said, a competition win is just that – being at the right place at the right time and with the right judge. There are obviously tons of other very talented photographers who don’t get their images placed (or even submit them at all…). In any case, I’m going to savour this for a while. It’s been a long day!

Sweet!

Gabriel texted me when I was in Bali to tell me about my 4th place finish at the most recent WPJA competition. Whilst it’s only a 4th placing, it meant a lot to me because it’s the highest I’ve gotten. In a word – sweet! Here’s the image shot at Chu and Elayne’s wedding some time back…

Finally

The 7th month officially ends after today. The floodgates of weddings start tomorrow and I’m kind of worried whether I’ll survive the next 4 months well. The 7th month was supposed to be a month of rest and reflection – to recharge for the next couple of months that’s typically a peak season for wedding photographers. In that department, I guess I’m a little suboptimal. I don’t think I managed to get much rest, much less reflect. That’s probably what being a professional is about – to pick yourself up and continue despite the odds. So wish me luck – I shoot more or less non-stop for the next 2 weeks :)

Oh, I woke up this morning to see that the WPJA results for the 2nd quarter are out. I managed an eighth placing for this image from Tommie and Joanne’s shoot (thanks guys!)! Ok, no big deal. I guess the image was at the right place at the right time. Still, this tiny  reward is huge motivation to try to do even better!

I was more thinking “butterfly” when I shot – but angelic works too, really :)
